The ISF is delighted to announce that the 2023 World Cup will be held in Germany in 2023.
The cultural city of Essen, home to over half a million people, has signed contracts with the ISF German member Association DKFV, and the ISF to secure the central location of Kennedyplatz in Essen where the World Cup will be held in the summer of 2023.
Head of the local organising committee, Julia Colter said: “Winning the bid is a dream come true for us and being able to host this major international sporting event is something we’ve been working towards for some time”.
Talks began with the city of Essen in 2020 and Essen’s Lord Mayor, Thomas Kufen said that the city was overjoyed to be hosting the ISF World Cup.
DKKF President, Christophe Kochy said: “Now the hard work starts to realise this massive project. Of course, this is a challenge after two years of coronavirus, but we are very optimistic. We have the support of the city, and we are all going to work hard to make this the event of a lifetime”.
The city of Essen is in the west part of Germany and is in the heart of the Ruhr area and has diverse cultural offerings and superb transport connections.
ISF media spokesman, Andy Thorley said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with our German friends to bring our amazing event to the city of Essen in 2023 and we are all going to be working together to realise this dream, which started at the Leisure Leagues Stadium in Lisbon in 2018, through to Crete in 2019, and now after the pandemic we can finally get going again properly with Germany in 2023, although I know there are some announcements for 2022 which we are going to be making soon as well.
ISF and Leisure Leagues Director Tom Nash said: “It’s not been easy, but we finally got there. What we didn’t want to do was to put on a sub-standard tournament or do things half-heartedly, which has always been a danger with the pandemic only just behind us. Now with Germany 2023 we know that not only will it be a full-scale, brilliant event, but we can hardly be working with better organisers than people like Christoph and Julia who have enormous experience with our previous events and will know exactly how to put on a great show for everybody”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
