The pausing of international 6 a side football across the world as the second wave of the Pandemic proved even more deadly than the first, but that hasn’t stopped Wales further strengthening their backroom team.
Anthony Gomez has joined the ever progressive Welshmen as Performance Analyst – it is believed to the first appointment if its type in world 6 a side.
The team, made up of Leisure Leagues players from the leagues across the nation, have competed in the last two ISF World Cup’s – powered by Leisure Leagues – and have given a great account of themselves – even winning the goal of the tournament at the last one, as Tyrell Webbe’s astonishing strike against Lithuania won the vote of millions on Social Media.
However, speaking to us after the 2019 tournament in Crete, Head Coach Barry John, a veteran of Leisure Leagues in South Wales told us “little moments of indiscipline” had cost the side.
It is this that the appointment of Gomez is designed to help correct. Those little 1% increments.
Anthony is highly experienced, he is current Head of Analysis at Cymru Premier team Flint Town United having also worked at Prestatyn Town when they were Cymru North champions, and at Wrexham fc respectively.
He also has experience of coaching at Grassroots level.
Speaking to us, Ant said: “I am really looking forward to working with the players and coaching staff at Wales 6 A Side.”
With the pandemic still raging, tournaments remain mothballed. There will be further news soon.
